LSU baseball rally falls short, gets swept by Ole Miss | Final score

Derek Curiel led off the seventh with a home run. It was LSU baseball’s first hit of the ballgame.

Apparently, all it took was for someone to take the lid off for the Tigers. Cade Arrambide and Jake Brown followed Curiel with solo home runs of their own to give LSU three straight homers as the fuse was lit to erase a seven-run deficit to tie the game, 7-7, on a wild pitch that allowed Eddie Yamin to score.

The Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate that inning after being no-hit through the first six frames. Despite the rally, the improbable comeback for the Tigers fell short as Ole Miss regained its composure with an RBI single from Brayden Randle in the bottom of the seventh to edge LSU, 8-7, at Swayze Field Sunday afternoon.

For the first time this season, LSU has been swept.

Nothing went right for LSU (22-15, 6-9 SEC) through the first six innings of the game. There were baserunning mistakes, two errors committed by the defense and a lack of rhythm on the mound as Ole Miss piled up 11 hits in six frames.

The Rebels (26-11, 8-7) hit three home runs as Jay Johnson worked through a number of LSU pitchers, including senior starter Grant Fontenot who recorded just one out in the first before being pulled.

After opening the game 0 for 2, Curiel had a pair of RBI hits in the seventh and finished the game 2 for 4.

LSU vs Ole Miss baseball game score, live updates

E8 | Ole Miss 8, LSU 7

My god, what a play by Sheerin. Talk about putting your body on the line.

M8 | Ole Miss 8, LSU 7

Nothing doing for the Tigers on offense.

E7 | Ole Miss 8, LSU 7

After battling to tie this game, LSU relinquishes the lead again to the Rebels. That was not Deven Sheerin's best or cleanest inning but he limited damage there. That was what the team needed if it's going to try and complete this improbable comeback.

M7 | LSU 7, Ole Miss 7

Curiel lit the fuse and this game is now tied. It's hard to explain where that output from the Tigers came from but this is a brand new game.

T7 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 5

Curiel, Arrambide and Brown crank three straight home runs. Then Brayden Simpson delivers a two-run single to cut the deficit to two runs.

LSU has somehow resurrected itself from the dead in this game. Unreal.

E6 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 0

Garcia is getting into a rhythm now. Problem is the offense is incapable of getting anything going.

M6 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 0

Inning ends on an interference call. Brayden Simpson, who was hit by pitch, did not slide or get out of the way of the throw from second over to first. Another baserunning blunder from LSU.

E5 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 0

Santiago Garcia with the best inning of this game for any LSU pitcher to this point.

M5 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 0

LSU still doesn't have a hit in this game.

B4 | Ole Miss 7, LSU 0

This game feels over. LSU has just not looked comfortable all weekend long.

M4 | Ole Miss 3, LSU 0

Cade Arrambide's walk is the Tigers' first baserunner of the game but they still are being no-hit.

E3 | Ole Miss 3, LSU 0

Guidry gets out of a jam there in the third. Can that be the thing that gets something going for the Tigers?

M3 | Ole Miss 3, LSU 0

The first time through LSU's lineup literally did not cause Taylor Rabe to sweat at all.

E2 | Ole Miss 3, LSU 0

Guidry was kind of humming then out of nowhere Dom Decker sends a high offering out the opposite way. Tigers have to turn things around offensively and it has to start now.

M2 | Ole Miss 2, LSU 0

Zero confidence in swings, in what they're seeing. LSU's offense is just putrid right now.

B1 | Ole Miss 2, LSU 0

Grant Fontenot touched for a couple of runs in the first and Jay Johnson will get him out of this game. Gavin Guidry coming in. Just a dreadful start to this game for the Tigers, who are fighting not to get swept.

M1 | LSU 0, Ole Miss 0

LSU goes down in order to open this game. Soft hit groundballs and Arrambide struck out.
