Masters final round live scoreboard: Rory McIlroy defends his green jacket

Sunday at the 2026 Masters Tournament started with intrigue and hope for more than a dozen players.

But by the end of the day, it came down to 2: The World No. 1, and the defending champion. And the defending champion refused to blink.

Rory McIlroy defended his championship with a huge burst in the middle of his round, making four birdies in seven holes. Even a final-hole bogey after a wild drive wasn't enough to let Scottie Scheffler back in, and McIlroy finished at 12-under par 276 to win by one shot.

Scheffler, who went bogey-free over his final 39 holes, shot 68 and 11 under for the week.

Masters Sunday final round live updates

6:37 p.m.: Rory McIlroy is one hole away from winning back-to-back Masters

Rory McIlroy hit a weak approach on the 17th hole, but hit a solid chip and made a 2-footer for par on 17 to put him one hole from a Masters title defense. Justin Rose has also finished at 10 under in a tie for third after he had the lead outright entering Amen Corner. He'll look back at those three holes ― bogey, bogey, three-putt par ― and wonder what could have been.

6:19 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler takes Masters clubhouse lead

Scottie Scheffler finishes off a round of 68 with a par on 18. No bogeys on the weekend. Huge rally that puts him position to benefit from any hiccups from Rory McIlroy (including his tee shot long on 16), who's still up by two.

6:12 p.m.: Rory McIlroy 3 holes from a Masters repeat

Rory McIlroy was a little dicey on the 15th hole, barely clearing the water with his third shot, but a two-putt par keeps him up by two shots with three holes to play. Scottie Scheffler narrowly missed a birdie putt on 17 and his approach on 18 came up short. Cameron Young's putter has stopped playing along, with missed birdie putts on the last three holes. The wind has started playing tricks on the field; we had so little of it over the past 2 days that it's a bit of a last-minute change.

5:56 p.m.: Scheffler's last-gasp rally extends, but McIlroy leads by 2

Scottie Scheffler makes consecutive birdies on 15 and 16, while Justin Rose has birdied 15 to pull both of them within two shots of Rory McIlroy. The leader heads to the 15th tee with a cushion. A reminder that no birdies have been made yet on No. 17 today.

5:43 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler finally birdies; Rory McIlroy immediately responds

Scottie Scheffler clipped two trees on the 15th hole on his way to the green, but rolled in his first birdie since No. 3 to get to 10 under and maybe put some pressure on Rory McIlroy. But the defending champ got his birdie putt on No. 13 to spin in, and he's now up by 3 shots with 5 holes to play.

5:22 p.m.: Rory McIlroy leads by two shots in Masters final round

Rory McIlroy's putter, which deserted him on the first nine, has returned just in time. The defending Masters champ two putted from 36 feet on 10, 58 feet on 11 and then rolled in a 7-foot birdie putt on No. 12 after taking an aggressive line off the tee. With Cameron Young's par in the same group, he now has a two-shot lead on the field.

5:06 p.m.: Rory McIlroy back in front alone in Masters final round

Justin Rose's flubbed chip behind the 12th green costs him a stroke, sending him into the jumble at 10 under. Which leaves Rory McIlroy out in front by himself for the first time in quite a while, and definitely today. He's on the 11th in two, but a long way away for a tough two-putt.

4:49 p.m.: Rory and Justin, back tied atop the Masters again

Justin Rose's wild second shot on 11 is too far right and he can't scramble his way to a par. He falls back to 11 under with Rory McIlroy, while Tyrrell Hatton (on the 18th), Russell Henley (birdie on 13) and Cameron Young (birdie putt coming on 10) are one shot back. Scottie Scheffler's on a run of 10 straight pars after a lipout on 12 to stay at 9 under.

4:39 p.m.: Welcome to the final nine holes of the Masters final round

Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy will again duke it out for a green jacket (with several other folks, too) down the stretch at the Masters. McIlroy just missed a golden opportunity to tie Rose on 9, but his birdie putt went left and he stays at 11 under. Tyrrell Hatton has gotten up and down on 17 to stay at 10 under, while Cameron Young bogeyed 9 from the trees to also fall to 10 under.

4:25 p.m.: Justin Rose's chase group grows in Masters final round

Justin Rose goes out in 32 (with a bogey on the 3rd, of all holes) after birdies on 7-8-9. Another lengthy birdie rolls in on 9. Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young both return to even par on the day with short birdie putts on the par-5 8th and are within one. And Tyrrell Hatton has birdied 13 through 16 to vault to 10 under. Non-stop action.

4:09 p.m.: Justin Rose leads the Masters alone, as Young slips again

Cameron Young couldn't get up and down from the front left bunker on No. 7, sending him to 10 under. Rory McIlroy, meanwhile, bounced back from his bogey on 6, striping a drive and putting his second shot close to convert a birdie to return to 10 under. It's now those two, and Russell Henley, one behind Rose at 11 under.

4:05 p.m.: Justin Rose joins the top of the leaderboard at Masters final round

Justin Rose has had two drives far to the left on the past two holes, and he's come out of it with two birdies. After driving into the patrons on 8, he hooked a hybrid out to the right of the eighth green, then got up and down for a birdie to join Cam Young at 11 under.

3:53 p.m.: Cameron Young finally stumbles

Cameron Young's run of solid putts and good fortune ended at No. 6, with a three-putt from the bottom of the hill. It slices his lead over Justin Rose and Russell Henley in half. Rory McIlroy is now even with Scottie Scheffler at 9 under after his up-and-down from over the green failed. Scheffler lipped out a birdie putt on 8 to stay at his score.

3:45 p.m.: Justin Rose won't go away, Rory in trouble again

Justin Rose replicated a shot from Rory McIlroy in last year's Masters, nearly holing out from the pine straw on No. 7 to get within two of the lead. Meanwhile, McIlroy has flown the green at the par-3 sixth and is in danger again. Cameron Young still leads by two after making par on 5.

3:35 p.m.: A new chaser emerges in the Masters final round: Russell Henley

Russell Henley, one of a cadre of former Georgia golfers in the field at majors, has birdied Nos. 7 and 8 to pull into a tie for second place with Rory McIlroy at 10 under. Scottie Scheffler has converted a pair of lengthy par putts on 6 and 7 to stay in the hunt, but Cameron Young still leads by 2.

3:23 p.m.: Putter lets down Rory, and now Cameron Young has a big lead at the Masters

Rory McIlroy lipped out two putts within 5 feet on the fourth hole and walks away with double bogey. It leaves Cameron Young alone in the lead at 12 under, with McIlroy at 10 under. A shocking turn of events.

3:15 p.m.: Rory returns to share of the lead at Masters

Rory McIlroy did what Sam Burns couldn't, get up and down from the bunker on No. 3 to get his birdie and a share of the lead. He proceed to yank on an iron on No. 4 left of the greenside bunker, but he's pitched up to a few feet to save par. Behind them it's a big shuffle, led by Scottie Scheffler and Justin Rose and Russell Henley, all three shots back.

2:57 p.m.: Cameron Young has outright lead in Masters Sunday final round

Cameron Young's pitch and putt birdie from 11 feet on No. 2 has given him the lead by himself early in the final round. Rory McIlroy again had a poor drive on a par 5, into the fairway bunker, and he couldn't convert from there. Sam Burns, meanwhile, made bogey on 3 after leaving his second shot in the greenside bunker and wasting a birdie chance.

2:44 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler, Justin Rose charge; Sam Burns fumbles on No. 2

Scottie Scheffler birdied No. 3 to go to 9 under. That's only 2 shots off the lead. He's there with Justin Rose, who's also trying to make birdie on the short par 4. And they are shockingly joined by Sam Burns, who made double on No. 2 after yanking his drive left into what's affectionately known as "The Delta Ticket Counter." If you go there, you're headed out of contention (and Augusta) shortly thereafter.

2:29 p.m.: Rory, Cam Young tee off, and they're joined in the Masters final round lead

Rory McIlroy and Cameron Young had barely hit their opening tee shots, and the scoreboards had changed at Augusta National. Sam Burns, in the group in front of them, made birdie despite driving into the fairway bunker on No. 1. It's a three-way tie for the lead. Justin Rose also birdied 1; Scottie Scheffler parred 2.

2:11 p.m.: Who opens Masters Sunday with a birdie? Scottie Scheffler of course

If anyone in the further group is gonna make a run, it's got to be Scottie Scheffler, right? The two-time champ in even years is cued up for a big day with a fortunate landing zone on his opening drive, which found a small strip of grass to the right of the fairway bunker, but not in the pine straw. He hit his approach inside 10 feet and converted the putt.

1:26 p.m.: The warmup act at the 2026 Masters is over. Here come the contenders

It's a steamy Sunday in Augusta and Augusta National Golf Club again appears to be willing to give up good scores in the final round. Gary Woodland shot 6-under-par 66 in the second group of the day; Viktor Hovland is 7 under thro
