After a really slow weekend in Oxford, the LSU Tigers made some noise with a potential comeback on Sunday, but ended falling 8-7 against the Ole Miss Rebels and falling victim to the sweep.

The Tigers and Rebels were right next to each other in the top 25 heading into the weekend, so this was a good chance to put some separation between yourself and a conference rival. LSU had lost its midweek game to Bethune-Cookman as well, so they really needed this series.

Now, the Tigers will certainly fall out of the rankings and have squandered the momentum they have built up over the past few weekends of SEC wins.

Ole Miss' starting pitching staff lived up to their high expectations and had LSU in fits for most of Sunday afternoon's game. Heading into the seventh inning in this one, the Tigers were down 7-0 and had no hits to that point.

Grant Fontenot was this game's opener and got chased after just five batters, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk. Gavin Guidry gave up three home runs in three innings, with seven total hits and five total runs.

In that seventh inning, though, LSU showed more fight than it had all weekend. Derek Curiel and Cade Arrambide started it off with back-to-back solo shots to finally chase Taylor Rabe. Jake Brown welcomed the reliever to the game with the Tigers' third straight home run.

LSU ended up batting around and allowed Curiel to pick up a single for his second RBI hit of the inning. By the end of it, the Tigers had tied the game 7-7.

It didn't take long for that good feeling to go away as the leadoff hitter for the Rebels ended up on second base after a pitcher's interference. He would go on to score two batters later to give Ole Miss the lead that won the game.

A heartbreaking loss after finally seeing some light after a frustrating week of baseball.

LSU will have a midweek meeting with the Northwestern State Demons on Tuesday and then return home next weekend for a series with the No. 18 Texas A&M Aggies. The Aggies are riding high after taking down the Texas Longhorns, so it will certainly not be any easier despite being in Baton Rouge.
